Maeve Warde Age 10
Freddy Frog Tells his Tale

I am sitting on a toadstool telling this young pixie my tale. I hope you will join me also. I started out as a little black dot holding on to a large mass of jelly using just a little sucker to grip on to the mass. My brothers and sisters are all with me, too helpless to swim. Two to three days later I was able to swim. I looked like a little comma. Then I got gills like little fingers. I got a mouth and on my lips I had lots of little teeth to eat tiny green plants. I also received eyes. My tail grew longer. I ate water cress and nibbled the leaves.

My head and body grew fatter and I ate more food. My two hind legs appeared. They were very useful indeed for swimming. I then got my two front legs and I began to climb on plants. I lost my tail and my legs grew stronger. I lost my gills and lungs appeared so I had to go to the surface to breathe. Every day I leaped about on a rock and ate flies and insects.

Wilma Witch

Wilma Witch was flying on her broomstick with her cat Percy curled up behind her. It was evening and she was just thinking how peaceful it was when suddenly it got very dark and the wind began to howl.

Wilma Witch was wobbling on her broomstick and Percy the cat got very scared. Wilma the witch cast a magic spell and in a blink of an eye they were home again.

The Red Apples

One roasting summer’s day I was strolling home with my friend down a quiet lane when we saw an orchard. The trees were bulging with fruit. The temptation was too hard to resist. There was nobody in the vicinity. We climbed up the orchard wall. We crept on tip toes and climbed the tree to get the red juicy apples. We hurriedly picked and we began to munch gleefully. Suddenly we heard a ferocious barking and loud angry shouts. We turned terrified. We saw an old man carrying a stick. We dropped the fruit and dashed to the wall. We scrambled over the wall with what seemed like one hundred dogs snapping at our feet. With our hearts thumping we fled in terror. We scurried home. When we got home we dropped with exhaustion. We remained home all day. We solemnly promised never to do anything like that again.

The Storm

I was on a ship in a fierce storm. The wind was howling and the waves crashing against our lone ship. We got tossed about all the time. We ran against some dangerous rocks and the whole ship was ripped apart. We were sinking rapidly. We were a crew in peril. We sent out an S.O.S. signal. Soon a helicopter came and began its rescue operation. We were all hoisted to safety. The wreckage went down to the sea bed never to be seen again.

I save with Cyril in School. Monday is stamp day and I bring in €1 to get a stamp. So far I have saved €10. Sometimes our teacher gives us a pen or a keyring. I got a pencil case which has a picture of Cyril on it.

Lucy Ferguson - Age 9

I think saving is a good idea. I started saving when I was eight. I have a lot of money in my account. I put €1 in my account every Monday when we have stamp day in school. On her birthday I bought my Mummy flowers with my money. She liked them.
